BREAKING: Amentum wins $572M NORAD Cheyenne Mountain support contract

The U.S. Air Force has awarded Amentum a $572.4 million contract to support the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s Cheyenne Mountain Complex, GovConWire reported today. The Pentagon announced the cost-plus-incentive-fee award Monday.

The contract is the third iteration of the NORAD Cheyenne Mountain Complex Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment and Space Support Contract, known as NISSC III. Amentum will operate, maintain, and sustain the command-and-control systems that provide integrated tactical warning and attack assessment (ITW/AA) for North America. Work will be performed at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, and is expected to run through Sept. 27, 2033.

The award was competitive and drew seven offers. Space Systems Command’s Battle Management Command, Control, Communications and Space Intelligence office in Colorado is the contracting activity, and the government obligated $15.6 million in fiscal 2026 operation and maintenance funds at award.

Amentum is the incumbent. A June 2026 bridge notice on SAM.gov named it as the NISSC II contractor and said the NISSC III award, originally planned for June with a four-month transition, had slipped after a 45-day government shutdown. The bridge was meant to keep contractor support in place while source selection finished.

Why it matters: ITW/AA is the warning backbone that tells NORAD and U.S. Northern Command a missile or air attack is underway. Keeping those legacy systems healthy through 2033 is the floor that any Golden Dome sensor and command-and-control layer will build on, and it lands the same day the Senate Armed Services strategic forces subcommittee takes up Golden Dome.
